About

Provost Public School students, staff and families aim to create belonging, persevere and engage in active learning. Provost Public School is a K-12 school with approximately 280 students. Our students reside within the Town of Provost, communities within the MD of Provost, or surrounding rural residences. Provost Public School strives for an inclusive learning environment that values a safe and caring space for students to learn. We believe that students need a strong foundation in numeracy and literacy. At PPS, a Writers’ Workshop methodology is implemented from K-9. In addition, Guided Reading is implemented at the elementary level and Readers’ Workshop is offered in grades 4-8. Phonological awareness, phonics, morphology, and vocabulary development are embedded into literacy classes. In elementary classrooms, students engage in curriculum-aligned numeracy programs that meet students where they are at in their learning progression. In addition to our literacy and numeracy programs, teachers have been working towards developing and implementing a concept-based foundation of learning and responsive assessment practices. Students are given opportunities to uncover concepts, transfer their understanding to new situations, and become involved in the learning and assessment process. Additionally, we offer music and band programs, and electives such as Industrial Arts, Foods, and Outdoor Education. Outside of academic programming, we also value our sports and extra-curricular opportunities. Students have opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities such as volleyball, basketball, badminton, cross-country running, curling, golf, card making, and drama productions.
